Why don't you exercise more?

“Why don’t you exercise more?”

I thought this to myself as I was running today.

I had taken a break earlier in the day to get away from the computer and re-organize my thoughts.  Plus it was nice out and I hate being inside when it is nice out. I normally hate running because I am not fast or good at it in anyway.  It also takes too long to get any where.  At least on a bike you are going somewhere.  But, running can give you that cardio work out that the bike just can’t.

Here are some of the excuses I generally give to this question, and a action against them:

“I am tired.”

This is my lazy side getting to me.  I am legitimately tired sometimes because my douche-bag neighbors feel it is necessary to come home at midnight and have a block party. But the cops can fix that one ;) I don’t think they can fix lazy. So I will have to just fight that one.

“I don’t want to be away from my family very long.”

I love being with my small family, and hate to leave because something my happen while I am gone.  I have to realize that my wife is very capable and can take care of most situations without me.  I also have to realize that if I don’t exercise I won’t be here with them anyway.  I already went through cancer once, no need to do that battle again.

“I will do it in the morning.”

No matter how I try I am NOT a morning person.  An early morning work out is not in the cards.  I realize that my ideal workout time is a 3PM.  I don’t know why, but that is when I actually get the most from it mentally and physically.  I just need to stop that excuse because it is a lie.

If you have any excuses, you may want to really examine them because they may just be empty excuses.

Have fun,
